Zoology Education 18th june 2015

Zoology Education Information

Degrees in zoology are available at the bachelor's, master's and doctoral degree levels. Undergraduate programs can provide students with an introduction to biological research and prepare graduates for work in the field assisting other researchers. These programs can also give students the foundation they need to embark on graduate studies in related fields, such as biology or veterinary medicine. Graduate programs allow for specializations in areas like ecology, conservation or a particular animal species. Zoology students often participate in lab research and outdoor fieldwork.
A bachelor's degree is usually the minimum requirement for zoology positions, but most research work requires an advanced degree. For instance, a bachelor's degree can lead to a job as a zookeeper, a veterinary assistant, an animal caretaker or a marine animal trainer. Advanced degree programs in zoology can lead to a career as a veterinarian, zoologist, university professor or independent researcher.

The Epidermis

You see, the sun's light rays travel through space, then through the Earth's atmosphere, and finally hit your skin as you lie on the beach sipping a non-alcoholic piña colada with a little umbrella sticking out of the glass.
The stratum lucidum layer of the epidermis is typically only found in certain body parts
Stratum Lucidum
The first, topmost, or superficial, layer of the skin the sun's rays hit is called the epidermis. Again, the epidermis is the outermost layer of the skin. The epidermis is itself made up of several layers. From outer to innermost, they are the:
  • Stratum corneum
  • Stratum lucidum
  • Stratum granulosum
  • Stratum spinosum
  • Stratum basale
Do note, however, that the stratum lucidum is typically only found in places like the soles of your feet or the palms of your hand. Regardless, it's pretty easy to remember the exact order of the layers of the epidermis. Since we're on the topic of possible sunburns, the coolest mnemonic to remember the layers of the epidermis from top to bottom, or superficial to deepest, is:
'Come, Let's Get Sun Burn'.
Each word's first letter represents the first letter of each layer. In case you were wondering, theepidermis is actually the layer of skin that is primarily affected in most cases of sunburn and begins to peel off if damaged by the light's dangerous UV rays.

Types of Skin Cells

However, your skin isn't a weakling, and does have a defense mechanism that tries to fight off dangerous ultraviolet rays found in sunlight. In the deepest layer of the epidermis, the stratum basale, which is also sometimes called the basal layer, are cells called melanocytes. These are cells that produce the pigment melanin. It is this substance, melanin, which determines the skin color of an individual. Those with larger amounts of melanin in their skin have darker skin, or their skin darkens with more exposure to sunlight.
Melanocytes in the basal layer of the epidermis produce the pigment melanin
Melanocytes in Basal Layer
Basically, as the sunlight hits your skin, the light rays stimulate the production of melanin by melanocytes. Since the majority of melanin is called eumelanin, which is a brownish black color, your skin begins to darken as more melanin is produced. Keep in mind that this melanin isn't produced to give you a nice tan for aesthetic reasons, but instead, helps protect you from cancer-causing ultraviolet radiation found in the sunlight that is baking and peeling your skin off at the beach. At least the pale vampires who come out after twilight don't have to worry about this.
Pale vampires aside, your epidermis has other cells that are quite important. One of these cells are called keratinocytesKeratinocytes are cells that eventually die in order to comprise the majority of the stratum corneum. The keratinocytes actually originate in the stratum basale, but as they mature and age, they move from the deepest to the most superficial layer of the epidermis. As yucky as that might sound, the keratinocytes do play a lot of important roles. One of these roles actually involves the melanin produced by melanocytes. The keratinocytes take up and store some of the melanin produced by the melanocytes, and this gives your skin an extra layer of protection from the damaging ultraviolet radiation of the sun's light rays.
Keratinocytes store melanin, giving skin an extra layer of protection from UV rays
Keratinocytes Store Melanin
In addition to housing young keratinocytes and melanocytes, the basal layer of your skin also contains other cells, such as Merkel cells, which are cells that are important in the sensation of touch.
With all of that in mind, I do have an important point to make. The topmost layer of your skin we are going over, the epidermis, is made up of something called 'squamous' cells, which are basically a bunch of really flat cells. Bearing those squamous cells in mind, the 'basal' layer of the epidermis where the 'Merkel' cells and 'melanocytes' are located, it should come as absolutely no shocker that:

Sensitive Skin Care 18th june 2015

How you respond to treatment depends on the daily care of your skin and the types of products you use. Sensitive skin needs a lot of TLC. Knowing your skin type and using the appropriate skin care products can make a difference between healthy and damaged skin.

All About Your Skin
The skin is the largest organ of the body; it is the most visible and has several functions. It acts as a barrier, protects you from temperature changes, and most importantly, it protects you from harm and is waterproof.
Yet, it is very permeable to many substances, including fragrances, dyes, and chemicals introduced to it by lotions, creams, patches or whatever it is in contact with. The skin has several layers. The outer layer and the one we see is called epidermis. This is composed of epithelial cells, which are one of the four main cell types in the body. The cells of this layer are shed regularly and new ones take their place. The rate of cell turnover slows down with aging. With little care of the skin, the rate may also slow down, causing build up of dead cells and premature aging.
The deeper layer is called dermis, which provides the structural support and flexibility or elasticity of the skin. This is where collagen and elastin are formed. The blood supply for the epidermis is also contained here.
Your skin has natural moisturizing factors to help retain water. If the moisture in the skin decreases, skin cells starts to break down and your skin becomes dull, thick, rough and scaly looking. The skin maintains smoothness and flexibility due to hydration and proper daily care.
Causes of Sensitive Skin
Certain irritants damage the skin barrier, cause loss of water and make it harder for your skin to stay smooth and pliable.
These include:
  • Detergents such as sodium lauryl sulfate in skin care products
  • Excessive use of harsh soap
  • Irritating ingredients in daily used skin care, such as salicylic acid, fragrances, and plant extracts or essential oils
  • Not cleaning away dirt, bacteria, or dead cells properly
  • Use of products with petrolatum, beeswax, lanolin, essential oils
If these factors are not addressed and you continue to use irritating products, the result can be eczema, psoriasis, extreme dry skin, premature aging and other signs of sensitive skin.
The irritants in products are capable of causing cell damage, especially when used for long term. The harsher the skin care products and longer the use of them, the more likely damage results.
Get to Know Your Skin Type
First step is to get to know your skin type and how to take care of it daily:
1. Dry skin — The winter is when your skin is the driest. Reduced humidity can also dry the skin. Your skin often feels tight and dull looking. For this type of skin, special care is required since hydration and moisturizing are so important to healthy skin. Use a gentle lotion cleanser and wash your skin no more than two times a day, preferably morning and nighttime. Reapply moisturizer at midday, if need be. A facial mask with dead sea mud and kaolin clay can add vital nutrients to your skin and keep it soft and hydrated.
2. Oily, acne prone skin — You must keep acne prone skin clean. Wash your face at least two to three times a day to help keep a balance between water retention and natural oils of the skin. Only use skin care that are non-comedogenic (won’t clog skin). An oil-free moisturizer should be applied after cleansing. Although your skin is oily, a light oil-free moisturizer is needed. Exfoliating scrub that is gentle is helpful once or twice a week as well. This helps remove dead cells and allows new cells to surface.
3. Combination skin — Being both dry and oily can be a challenge to take care of. The forehead, nose or chin are usually oily, with the dry zone being the cheeks. Always use a gentle cleanser and light moisturizer. Clean your face once or twice a day.
The Best Moisturizer for Sensitive Skin
To reverse damaged sensitive skin, replace loss of moisture on the skin. Keeping your skin hydrated is very important. A good moisturizer should help increase the water content with ingredients that are similar to the natural components of the skin.
Hydration helps prevent the skin from becoming damaged and helps it to be resistant to drying. The ingredients that help with hydration include:
  • Lactic acids
  • Alpha hydroxyl acids
  • Glycerin
  • Antioxidants
Importance of Sunscreen
The sun along with ultraviolet radiation is essential for the production of vitamin D. However, too much sun is not a good thing and an enemy of your skin. UVA penetrates deep into the skin and can cause skin damage. UVB does not penetrate deep into the skin and is responsible for sunburn. Frequent sun exposure without protection can cause premature aging of the skin through the collagen and elastin fibers of the dermis. It can also lead to skin cancer. Protecting your face with a broad spectrum sunscreen is very important. The best and safest type for sensitive skin includes zinc oxide and titanium dioxide for UV protection.

Beauty Tips for Oily Skin                                                                                                           Oily skin can take you through tough times as the sebaceous glands are over-active, producing excess sebum, contributing to a shiny, greasy-looking face and skin concerns such as acne, blackheads and whiteheads, enlarged or clogged pores etc. Pollution and dirt can even lead to comedones (skin-bumps) for those with very oily skin. The solution for this is to keep the oil production in control by following some simple beauty and skin care tips for oily skin.At the outset, you should know something positive about oily skin too. Oily skin is less prone to wrinkles and other signs of ageing primarily because the oil tends to lock the moisture into the epidermis which is the outermost layer of the skin.

One of the tried and tested ways to control excess oil is to cleanse it and keep it clean at all times. It is important to cleanse your face twice or thrice daily to rid it of all the accumulated dirt and oil build-up which leads to clogged pores, acne etc. Gel-based or foaming cleansers is the best of the tips for oily skin. Look for cleansers/face washes that are oil-free. Medicated soaps are also useful for cleansing oily skin. However, do not resort to abrasive cleansing techniques as this will strip your skin of its natural moisture, leading to the sebaceous glands producing more oil. Look for a product that contains one or more of these ingredients: Salicylic Acid, Tea tree oil, Neem, Turmeric, Honey.

2. Scrubbing is Good for Oily Skin!:

It is imperative to exfoliate oily skin once or twice a week. This is another one of the very

Checkup: Winter Skin and moisturizers 17th june 2015

What are the signs?
The telltale symptoms of dry skin are easy to spot: Skin just generally feels drier and tighter. Other signs may include roughness, itching, severe redness, flaking and scaling. Sometimes pores become less visible or skin may look dull. In severe cases, skin may crack and bleed, especially on the hands and fingertips.
Why does it happen?
Sun exposure or cold, dry air can cause skin to become dehydrated. Dry skin is more common in the winter because the air contains less humidity. It can also be genetic or hereditary, or a natural effect of aging.
What are your options?
  • Over-the-counter lotions, such as Eucerin and Curél, can relieve dryness and flaking. Or try a body cream that contains oil to help seal in moisture. Look for fragrance-free products with alpha hydroxy acids, which gently exfoliate to allow more water and moisture into the skin.
  • Avoid antibacterial and deodorant soaps, which can be harsh and drying. Instead, use a gentle cleanser, such as Dove or Aveeno, or a mild shower gel with added moisturizers
  • shower or soak in the tub for more than 10 minutes. Doing so breaks down your skin's natural protective oils, which keep it soft and smooth.
  • Use a humidifier during the winter. Central heating and space heaters can dry out the air in your home.
  • Choose natural, breathable fabrics, such as cotton and silk, for your bedding and innermost layer of clothing.
  • Add caption
  • Drink plenty of water and other liquids to keep skin hydrated from the inside out. Omega-3s (essential fatty acids found in foods such as salmon, walnuts, flaxseed, soybeans and broccoli) can also help keep skin supple.

When should you worry?

See a dermatologist if dryness and itching keep you awake at night, if OTC lotions aren't working, if you have open sores or large areas of scaling or peeling skin, or if you develop an infection from scratching. You could have a more serious condition such as eczema, psoriasis or another skin disorder.
Did you know?
  • Although everyone's skin changes with age, a man's skin tends to stay moist longer. That's because a woman's skin becomes much drier after menopause.
  • The best time to apply lotion is immediately after a shower or bath, when skin is still damp.
  • Since dry skin is extra-sensitive, it's important protect it from the sun, especially if it's snowing (snow can reflect as much as 80 percent of the sun's rays). Apply SPF 15 or higher every day to your face, neck and ears.

What sexual side effects 15th June 2015

Sex might be the last thing on your mind as you start thinking about cancer treatment options and cope with the anxiety that comes with a cancer diagnosis.
But as you start to feel more comfortable during cancer treatment and afterward, you'll want to get back to a "normal" life as much as you can. For many women, this includes resuming sexual intimacy.
An intimate connection with a partner can make you feel loved and supported as you go through your cancer treatment. But sexual side effects of cancer treatment can make resuming sex more difficult.
Find out if you're at risk of sexual side effects during and after cancer treatment and which treatments can cause these side effects.

Who's at risk of sexual side effects?

Women with the greatest risk of sexual side effects include those being treated for:
  • Bladder cancer
  • Breast cancer
  • Cervical cancer
  • Colon cancer
  • Ovarian cancer
  • Rectal cancer
  • Uterine cancer
  • Vaginal cancer
Treatment for any cancer carries the risk of causing physical changes to your body that can alter your body image and your sexuality. But having cancer also affects your emotions, no matter what type of cancer you have. For instance, you may feel anxious and worn out about your diagnosis, your treatment or your prognosis. These emotions can also affect your attitude toward sex and intimacy with your partner.

What sexual side effects are most common?

The treatment you receive and your type and stage of cancer will determine whether you experience sexual side effects. The most commonly reported side effects among women include:
  • Difficulty reaching climax
  • Less energy for sexual activity
  • Loss of desire for sex
  • Pain during penetration
  • Reduced size of the vagina
  • Vaginal dryness
Not all women will experience these side effects. Your doctor can give you an idea of whether your specific treatment will cause any of these

Woman Giving Birth 15th June 2015

A young woman in Belgium has become the first

Woman Giving Birth

to g
ive birth to a healthy baby after having her fertility restored by a transplant of ovarian tissue that was removed and frozen when she was a child.
The pioneering treatment could lift the spectre of infertility for girls who undergo harsh chemotherapy or radiotherapy treatments at a young age when they do not yet have mature eggs that can be stored for use in the future.
The 27-year-old patient, who has asked to remain anonymous, gave birth to a healthy boy in November and was said to be overjoyed after suffering years of anxiety about her fertility since undergoing chemotherapy as a 13-year-old.
Isabelle Demeestere, the gynaecologist who led the trial at Erasme Hospital in Brussels, said: “This was like a victory for her, she was so happy after living with that uncertainty for years.”
The successful treatment could pave the way for fertility to be restored in many more women who until now have been unable to have children after being given medical treatments that caused damage to their ovaries, the scientist added.
“It’s the only option available for these children,” said Dr Demeestere. “It proves that immature tissue can be transplanted in adult patients. Even if you put the tissue in an adult environment, it will be activated.”
Fertility experts hailed the findings, published in the journal Human Reproduction, as a medical milestone.
Dr Geeta Nargund, medical director at Create Fertility, said: “This is a major breakthrough. It is one anecdotal case, but it’s immensely exciting. It demonstrates a natural conception and a healthy baby in a woman who simply would not have had this option until now.”

A Girl's Best Friend

Think of it this way: Do you look better leaning over your husband with your stretch marks glistening and everything drooping and jiggling — or reclining with your face turned up, lips parted expectantly and your hair arranged over a bank of snowy white pillows? The missionary position is feminine; it's alluring. And don't try telling me that it's not erotic. Arch your back, give your husband your best "Come get me" look and just watch that man move.
Of all positions, this is the most aesthetic. You don't have to be self-conscious about your body because most of it is covered by your husband's. And, for women anyway, there's no performance anxiety. This is a position everyone knows how to do. Lying on your back with nothing on your mind other than, say, how that stain got on the ceiling, you're in the ideal position to unwind and enjoy yourself. As my friend Joanne remarks, "I find it easier to have an orgasm in that position, because I'm more relaxed. With the others I'm constantly thinking about what I should be doing." It's the perfect position for the coy, the shy or the just plain lazy. "I can concentrate on me," says another friend, Beth.
No other position makes you feel so loving, affectionate and close to your partner. Face-to-face you can kiss and explore each other. You can watch the expressions on his face — an erotic experience in itself — and your hands are free to caress or grip him tight. The missionary position is also the most comforting to finish in — you're cuddling already, for heaven's sake.
Some women, however, are put off by the position's simplicity. If just anyone can do it, they don't want to. And its name doesn't do it any favors either, as it was reportedly introduced by missionaries to inhabitants of the old European empires as a "respectable" position — a history unlikely to make you paralyzed

with lust.
"It's boring," says Patricia, who clearly never wrestled with some of the missionary's variations. "Sideways-facing positions or being on top gives him better access to all my important parts."
"Being on top makes me feel aggressive, which is erotic," says Rachel. And some women, says Shirley Zussman, Ed.D., a New York sex and marital therapist, may feel pinned down in the missionary. "They're not as free to move around as they are in other positions.

sex mistakes for man and beter lovers

to a public pool, but I've always thought how great it would be to post something similar in my own bedroom.
Look, we love that you love having sex with us, and we love having sex with you, too. But sometimes you do things that we don't like. Weird things. Things that you think are going to make us groan with gratitude and pleasure but really make us want to roll over and turn on the TV.
Luckily, these mistakes generally result not from lack of skill but from wrong information. You can easily unlearn them. Remember: I probably know what I like better than you do.
And if I had a bedroom sign, this is how it might read.
Don't Ask, "What Do You Like?"
. . . the first time we have sex. It's our third date. Okay, so maybe it's only the second, or maybe we just met in an elevator. At any rate, we're making out. Pants are coming off, eyes are smoldering. You ask this question and, bam . . . the magic is gone.
First, I am embarrassed. I may have been ready to have sex, but not so up for talking about it! Second, I feel pressured to provide a provocative answer, something involving toys or systematic humiliation, but the only thing I can think of to say is, "Well, Steve, I suppose I like manual and oral stimulation followed by intercourse resulting in my eventual orgasm." Finally, I am annoyed. Are you trying to sound sexy, wild, open to anything? Because if you are, won't I eventually discover that?
Do . . . ask questions later. Questions help an ongoing sexual relationship move forward. They slow a new one down.
Don't Put Your Tongue in My Ear
The innocent, unfortunate ear a) is a semidiscreet spot, b) is a hole, and c) has folds. For these reasons, it has been ill-defined as a major erogenous zone. This is one of the great misperceptions in the history of Western civilization. Too many men work according to the metaphor that her ear is the fragrant soil of the French forest, and you are a truffle hound. Put yourself on a short leash.
Do . . . tread lightly. I'm not saying never go for the ear. Just not every time. When you do, the ear is to be kissed gently, maybe licked on the edges, or nibbled with restraint. Then you can leave it alone. It's an ear.
Don't Be Too Eager
Do not try to stuff your semihard penis into my vagina. I understand: You're hoping it will get harder once it's in. Or you're thinking that if you act like everything's fine, then everything will be fine. Or maybe you're treating your penis like a stubborn teenager—you're going to show him who's boss and send him to his room.
The only thing more humiliating than stuffing a flaccid penis inside someone is being stuffed by a flaccid penis. In this one wretched act, we can feel all of your fear, desperation, and insecurity, concentrated in the precise place where you want us to feel something else. Add to this the odd sensation that we are getting a gynecological exam from a teddy bear.
Do . . . anything but this. Kiss. Watch The O.C. Order a pizza. Unless it's a recurring problem requiring medical or psychiatric attention, it's not a big deal. Really.
Don't Reach for My Clitoris
. . . if you are in a position that is unsuitable for such a connection. Like when I'm clearly enjoying whatever we're doing. Or, say, if you're in the den watching TV and I'm in the kitchen making brisket. Such persistence is not admirable; it's annoying. It's good that you know clitoral stimulation is important. Now you need to know that if it's not done right—the right angle and pressure, the right motion—then it doesn't feel good, and it may even hurt.
Do . . . ask. It might help to take her hand and say, "Show me what you like here." Then you can follow the motion of her hand, or she can guide yours until you've figured it out. In certain positions, a woman just doesn't want stimulation there, or prefers to do it herself.
Don't Shave Your Balls
Having sex with a guy who shaves his balls is like riding a horse with a saddle made of broken glass. If you are going to shave, you're going to have to do it regularly. Say, every half hour.
Do . . . embrace your hairiness. Unless you come up with a dignified solution—and they are expensive—try to accept your body hair. You're a guy. Your great-great-etc.-grandfather was a gorilla. No one blames you.
Don't Have a Nervous Breakdown
. . .  about ejaculating too fast, losing your erection, or not being able to get one. An occasionally temperamental penis is no cause for alarm—but a guy who freaks out about it is. (If you make a big deal about it, we'll start to think maybe it really is a big deal, one we'll have to worry about.) Conversely, it's also not a good idea to act as if nothing happened, because, well, that is just bull, and that never flies.
Do . . . acknowledge it, then laugh it off.
